Ten years ago, almost to the day, the First Edition of Folke Myrvang's MG34 MG42, German Universal Machineguns was published, following a long period of research and writing. Some of this material, which is of great interest to all students of small arms, was apparently stolen from the secret weapons factory in Izhevsk many years ago. Also included is a transcript of the interview which Dr Gruner granted to the Dresden Military Museum in 1991, only a few years before his death. As an aid to collectors attempting to avoid the rising tide of fakes and reproductions we offer in these two volumes the most comprehensive and authoritative study of German machinegun models, components and accessories ever published, a study of which will materially aid in the search for genuine artefacts of lasting value.

A worthy follow-up to the original

The first volume of this series, MG-34 MG-42, German Universal Machineguns, is one of the best gun books ever written. Fully illustrated, it was clearly the product of years of intensive research. Given that, it seems like it would be a hard act to follow. Folke Myrvang has done just that though, and this book was very much a worthwhile addition to my library.

Volume 2 doesn't pick up exactly where Volume 1 ended, rather, it fills in a lot of the material that surrounds the topic of German machineguns. It covers a great deal of the interwar period, specifically the modifications done to Maxim guns, as well as limited production guns the German army tried out. It also goes a great deal into postwar produced copies of the German weapons, and the various accessories associated with all of the guns covered, even more than the first volume did. This book stresses the universality of the weapons, and you see a lot of interesting period photos that really show the guns in use, along with a variety of mountings illustrating just how adaptable the gun really was.

The text is quite clear, and the formatting makes sense, so it is a very readable book. The book is heavily illustrated in color, and features a nice table of contents that covers both volumes. It is hardbound like all Collector Grade books, and comes with an especially durable dust jacket. The paper is of good quality, as is the binding, and it will last a lifetime. I can't really think of anything that could be improved with this book.

If you are in to German weapons, or machineguns in general, I would suggest getting this book while you can. I will never be selling my copy, but if this thing ever goes out of print, it will undoubtedly soar in price.

HORRIBLE DESCRIPTION!

The solutions manual for Anton, Bivens, and Davis' CALCULUS is broken down into several manuals. When I purchased this, I believed I was getting the solutions manual for the entire book. I was dumbfounded when I realized it BEGINS in Chapter 11, and ends in Chapter 15.

Speaking to the manager of my college's bookstore, I learned that this is in multiple "installments" ... and I can't order from my school because the bookstore doesn't know which one to order, either.

Very frustrated with this book/author/solutions manual/publisher.

Incredibly bad!

This is a very shoddy piece of work. As others have noted, this solutions manual only covers ch 11-15. I knew that when I ordered it. The reason I'm giving it just one star - first time I've ever done that - is that many of the answers are simply wrong. I found 3 wrong answers on two adjoining pages (314-315) - and that's just doing a small fraction of the problems on those pages. Check it yourself: Ch 12.2 #37, Ch 12.3 #5 and #9. Just compare the answers with those in the back of the text book. The text book is correct - the solution manual is wrong. Also, as others have noted, many of the "solutions" are little more than slight expansions on the answer, i.e. not a step-by-step solution. Amazing!

The solutions in this manual are little more than the answers provided at the back of the text book. If you are looking for a real solution manual, one that will help you understand the steps needed to complete the problems in the book you will need to try another source. Try Chegg... it is more helpful (though not perfect) and well worth the small monthly fee.

I thought at the end of the last Rock Star book that Jay was definitely not someone I’d ever like to meet. He would be the kind of star you crushed on until that moment he opened his mouth. This novel sees him in all his raw inadequacy with a touch of refreshing comedy. One of my favourite laugh-out-loud bits was when he was asked to leave and handcuffed himself to a potted palm with his fluffy pink cuffs. When nobody was looking he dragged the palm along a series of corridors to where he wanted to be anyway and stayed there all night, still handcuffed to it, despite having the key and having left a trail of dirt along his route. He’s hilarious.

This novel touches upon the very sad realities for Mail Order Brides and what life sometimes becomes for them. They end up as the prisoners of sex predators, prostituting themselves in return for citizenship or visas. It’s not until the end that the reader gets to see how well this has been set up right from the start of the first book. I understand now why I was meant to hate Jay Felix, why he bought the resort and where the series has the potential to go. There’s a neat cluster of characters now who have the potential to be more than extras and become contributing members of the cast in a series which could go on for many books to come. Well written as always and enjoyable to the last word.

A Book to Remember/Don't pass this one up

This story was truly fantastic! It's one where the characters stick with you for a long time. The romance oozes from the pages. At times you'll be laughing your socks off. I won't give any spoilers but I will say I don't usually read these types of books as I usually read mostly paranormal and fantasy romance. This book is actuality realistic, I think anyway. I have already devoured her other books in this series and wasn't left wanting and neither will you. So click it open and read, its that simple, after all, I truly understand how hard it us to find those unique stories out their you browse for. This is one of them.

Genius Tragically Cut Short But Great Transcriptions of His Classics Survive Here!

I have bought and thrown away too many guitar tab books to remember but I have to say that this is one of the best ones that I've ever encountered. The book binding is done well enough so that the pages don't come apart easily despite frequent use. I know because I have committed tunes like "Photographs and Memories" and "These Dreams" to memory using this very well and accurately transcribed collection of songs with little trouble. Kudos to you, Yoichi Arakawa, for an excellent job of transcribing. Arakawa even indicates for you the tracks that are capoed and I like his manner of transcribing capoed pieces which makes it easy for me to understand unlike other versions where the transcriber inexplicably decides to tab as if the capo is already on. This confuses me and I much prefer the tab shown as if the capo is not on and then I can work my way up the fret myself once I put the capo on. In any case, mostly it's Guitar 2 that uses the capo on the tracks here with Guitar 1 only concerned for the track "I Got A Name" which is probably because Jim didn't write this one and so needed to adjust to his singing voice. The other tracks that he himself wrote only had Maury on Guitar 2 with the lead and harmony work using the capo.

It is indeed rare to find such accuracy in tab books like this and so I have to give credit where credit is due. Playing the Guitar 1 part along with the cd for "Photographs and Memories" was a breeze because of this for example. For tracks like "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" the piano part is thoughtfully transcribed for guitar. All tracks come in both Tab and standard notation which is useful as I use the tab to know the fingering and I use the standard notation at the same time to learn the timing of the notes. Maury's guitar solos and harmonic playing along with Jim's is also very accurately transcribed. The tracks transcribed are:

1) Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
2) These Dreams
3) Time In A Bottle
4) Dreamin' Again (love those natural harmonics on the 12th fret)
5) I Got A Name
6) I'll Have To Say I Love You In a Song
7) It Doesn't Have To Be That Way
8) Operator
9) Photographs and Memories
10)You Don't Mess Around With Jim

in that order. These represent a very good sampling of Jim's best ever work and so this authentic guitar-tab edition is a real treat for fans of folk music who want to expand their repertoire.

Guitar Tab Notation - 9 great songs

This book is in Guitar Tab (Tabulature) notation and does NOT read like a standard music book - be warned! I am NOT a tab reader, the title did not indicate that the book was in Tab, so take the layout comments with a grain of salt. There are 9 very popular Croce songs in this collection, and they are the ones you would expect to be there. In back of the front cover is a key to the more arcane Tab notations found later in the book. Some of the basic stuff wasn't covered, but seems to be pretty obvious to anyone who does chording and can sight read a melody line. The chord names are printed above the music, without chord boxes, as the fingering is covered by the Tab notation. Tab looks like the strings of a guitar streched horizontally under the lines of music. Numbers on the strings indicate which fret position you are supposed to cover (but not which finger to do it with.) There is a second G clef stanza with the chorded notes indicated on it. The melody line also includes the harmony parts, and notes on when to use them, such as 'second verse only', etc. The arrangements are very rich, and sometimes include alternate guitar parts for different verses. Any guitar solo spots are also detailed, making this an excellent book to learn songs from. Since there are so many lines of performance information with each line of melody, they only get 2-4 lines of music on a page. That means the book is much bigger than you would assume from the number of songs included. It also means there is a LOT of page turning going on. This book is geared at teaching you the songs, and is not suited to performing from. The lyrics for all verses are included under the musical notation, with none of those annoying blocks of text for extra verses at the ends of the music. I don't do Tab, but I would rate this book an 8.

This book has every last note of the songs.. Usually you find Jim Croce Music with just one guitar transcriptions.... Having both guitar parts makes it poerfect... Now if a publisher would get around to doing the rest of his songs this way
