Not worth the money

The title of the book is a stretch. I bought it to learn "Building Design Strategies". Of the 130 pages, only 30 pages talked about strategies, the rest, is a collection of findings from other people's research papers. It should be Titled Daylight and Health.

The book is not worth the money! Wish I could return it for a refund.

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

This book overextends on a topic that is not as important as the man with the PhD who wrote it would like to think. It is an obsessive overkill on a subject that noone really cares about anymore because good lighting/daylighting design is already part of the DNA understanding of just about everyone. Everyone knows and has accepted a long time ago that daylighting is an integral part of architecture, health, etc. The book doesn't read well, and it is clear that the author is interested only in creating publications throughout his career on a splinter subject in architecture & design that does not really have anything to do with the "big picture" anymore. What is next? Perhaps the author will move into "Curtains, Architecture & Health". Everyone knows that curtains are an extremely important element to good lighting design. There are sheer & opaque curtains that have both aesthetic & lighting control properties that are valuable to the health of occupants in a given space. Good curtain design requires extensive but simple calculations of transmittance & reflectance in order to determine their controlling affects on the design lighting/daylighting scheme for a given space so that only the correct and appropriate curtains are chosen for any particular space and its occupants. Or, how about the door hinge? Door hinges are very important to a healthy design, without them we would not be able to close our doors and protect ourselves from the unhealthy elements. Good door hinge design is to be calculated using the rotational velocity calculation that I have created specifically for correct sizing. Or, how about pillows? Pillows are important to have on a bed. Without them, we would not be supporting the natural contours of our neck & back during the period of human rest that is called sleep. A good pillow design requires extensive but simple contour calculations & sizing so that only the right amount of pillow is included in our design. Or, how about lamp shades. Lamp Shades are very important to a healthy lighting design. Without them we would not be able to take advantage of healthy diffuse lighting effects that good lamp shade design provides. Without them we would have excessive glare, and therefore become blinded by the light. The list of possible splinter subjects are endless for this author. Everyone knows that being close to daylighting is healthy. Who has not desired an office space next to a window with a view throughout the last 100 years of history? Daylighting and good health is intrinsic and therefore does not require the extensive overview that this book seeks to provide. With the advent of LEED, BIM, and other movements in A/E/C, perhaps the author could focus more on how daylighting strategies save energy, reduce carbon emissions, and save people money. I'm sure the hard data on such a topic, with the current trends, would be of high value to readers, rather than the nonsense in this book.

Beautiful, Mind-blowing, Suspenseful!

When you hear the words "Men of Honor," you may think of policemen or women, military personnel, FBI, CIA, but what about those who's family run the Mob? Are they not Men of Honor? Trey is a very handsome man who enjoys the finer things in life like strippers, parties, and just having a good time. Trey not only has his hands full by trying to take over his father's place as being the leader of the Mob, but now has found in love with a stripper named Mandi.

Mandi has been hurt her entire life, and is not sure she likes the idea of being in another relationship. She soon realizes that she is indeed in love with Trey, even though he scares her. When Mandi gets attacked, Trey shows his true colors and she finds herself second guessing her feelings.

Bela, Trey's sister, is in love with Vincent who is the son of her father's sworn enemy. Together, they try to keep their relationship a secret, but when Vincent starts working for her brother, their plans start to change. Now, Bela is faced with hard evidence in her mother's death, and she doesn't know what to believe.

Will Mandi realize her true feelings for Trey? Will Bela and Vincent be able to keep their relationship a secret? Will love prevail overall or will it be their downfall? What secret is Vincent hiding? What really happened to Bela and Trey's mother?

A great intense mob romance

When I think of the phrase "men of honor", I immediately think of police officers. The "men of honor" in Men of Honor are definitely not police officers. In fact, they're pretty much the exact opposite. They're the mob.

Men of Honor revolves around the DeLuca mob family. Trey DeLuca is heir to the throne and is doing everything in his power to prove he's up to the job. He's cruel and calculating. His one weakness is Mandi, the stripper he can't stay away from. He'll do anything to keep her safe, even if it jeopardized his place in the family.

Trey isn't the only young DeLuca fighting for his place in the family. Nineteen-year-old Bela DeLuca wants to escape her family destiny. She's been kept safe and out of the family business her entire life, but a chance encounter with her family's arch nemesis has changed all that. Bela has fallen in love with Vincent Marcano. She hopes he is chance to break from the control her father and brother have on her life.

Vincent Marcano left his mob life just when he was set to take over. He wants to be free from the violence of the lifestyle, but it's hard with a bounty on his head. Things got even tougher when he fell for the enemy. Now, Vincent has been forced to join forces with his enemy to try and free himself and Bela from the life they hate.

Men of Honor was a fast-paced, intense ride. The authors weaved a tale that was constantly changing and surprising me. I loved reading the story from the four different points of view (Trey, Mandi, Vincent and Bela). Their individual voices gave the story more depth and it was fun to find out the different secrets they were each keeping.

One thing that bothered me a little while reading Men of Honor was the amount of violence. I understood its inclusion since this a story about the mob, but it was tough for me to read at times. Another thing that threw me off was the ending. It felt like an odd place to end book one. I was expecting more of a cliffhanger.

Readers who enjoy mob romances with a ton of action are suspense will love Men of Honor. I'm really looking forward to reading book two, Code of Silence, to find out what happens next!

Vincent soon finds his way back and into the arms of Bella Deluca, the daughter of Sal, the number one mob boss. Vincent and Bella's family are rivals, holding lifetime grudges. Vincent will soon have to the earn the trust of Trey, Bella's brother. Vincent wants back into the life of organized crime but what price is he willing to pay ?

Trey Deluca is Bella's brother and a loose cannon in the mob world. He wants nothing more to walk in his fathers shoes someday. All seems to go right till Vincent shows up. Will his dynasty quickly crumble ? ? ? ? ?

I can not say enough of how much I LOVED this novel! There was so much going on you just did not want to put it down! As fan of mob movies and book, Denton knocked this one out of the park! I was alittle upset at the end, I wanted more ! ! The characters were so well described that they could walk right off the pages. I can not wait to read more in this series ! JOB WELL DONE !

If your child loves rocks, buy this book.

My daughter loves Zoe and Rocco skits on Sesame Street, collecting rocks, pretending to collect rocks, and putting things in bags. I bought this book at our local book store yesterday on a whim, we read it this morning before getting dressed, and most of her morning pretend play revolved around rocks. This is a good book with a problem-solving girl protagonist. I enjoyed that the adults are Rhoda's aunt and uncle, rather than her parents or teachers or mysteriously missing from the world entirely.

Rhoda's Rock Hunt was fun to read as an adult, the illustrations made me smile at all the different terrain that they hiked, and now I have introduced more ideas about rocks to my daughter. Our conversations today were not just counting or about the size of the rocks, but stripes and shapes and stacking them into towers. Thanks for writing a book about a little girl who loves rocks.

My 3 year old is OBSESSED!

My almost 3 year old little girl is obsessed with this book. OBSESSED! She loves rocks and tiny things and is a total nature girl so this fits her personality to a T. She wants to read it 10 times a night and this is a book I don't mind reading over and over again. Beautiful illustrations and a sweet and very unique story. A nice change from all the normal princesses and frilly things. Bravo Molly Beth Griffin!

I can really relate to this book. Rhoda is a girl who loves to collect rocks, but finds herself wanting to keep too many of them. She cannot take all of them home because they are too heavy, so what does she decide to do? Read this cute book filled with beautifully colorful illustrations and a wonderfully crafted story to find out.

Outstanding insight into Borges and his worlds

The signature story 'Borges and I' is one I have read many times and love very much. Yet only through reading the commentary of this work did I understand the real nature of the game being played by the writer Borges with the person Borges. So too in reading of Borges early years I got a more complete understanding of the various aspects of his background influenced by his nationalist Spanish loving mother and his father who had the English library that would be the great source of revelation and pleasure to Borges throughout his life. In short reading this commentary gives wonderful insight into one of the most original writers the world has known. Borges' various fictional worlds are clearly and imaginatively explored in this outstanding commentary.

A drifting pile of thoughts about Borges. Nothing directly from Borges. The book was repetitive and irritating with its lack of focus and complete absence of any intellectual depth.
