Great purchase!

I am a PT with 4 years of experience. I found this text as an invaluable resource to reference pathologies while studying for the OCS and my residency tests. Additionally, the clinical reasoning chapters were great to help build a foundation from which to approach a clinical examination. This however is not a "how to book" on how to sequence your examination. It is as it says 5 books in 1. Part 1 had decent background on tissue healing, radiology, pain behavior, biomechanics, etc. Part 2 and 3 had solid orthopedic reasoning and orthopedic pathology sections that are well-referenced. Haven't used the pharmacology or rehabilitation section much frankly. Moral of the story, for the cost, you most likely won't find a more helpful text. But, you will need to take the time to sit down and work through it to really get your money's worth. But using it as a reference tool alone is worth your cash.

This is a fantastic book!

I would highly recommend this book to any student or clinician who is interested in a book to help them improve as clinicians. It is written in a manner to provide quick bulleted information to the clinician and organized in a manner that is logical and easy to find. Clinical guidance is provided by some of the leaders in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation. The orthopedic pathology section should be a great help to any clinician because it provides valuable information regarding each pathology and provides information on which tests are the best, how long it should take to recover, and which interventions may be the best to help facilitate recovery. Overall, a great book and extremely valuable to both students and clinicians. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Easy-to-follow blueprint for simple yet effective online course design

This is an outstanding book for anyone who is considering developing an online or hybrid course. All concepts are presented in a straightforward, practical manner with plenty of examples. There is no extraneous material and the rationale behind all recommendations are clearly defined.

In short, the authors have created an easy-to-follow, effective blueprint for bringing your instruction online. I strongly recommend it for any first-time online and/or hybrid instructors.

Excellent new version of the original

Excellent new version of the original. The issues are clear and interesting. For everyone that has been teaching in the traditional classroom, this book shows the way to transition to an online or blend curriculum. In fact, it even helps with the continuing design of the traditional model.
For the experienced online instructor, it will supply the one or two missing elements that you have been looking for.

“Complete” is the best word to describe the scope of this book. It covers everything from high-level rationales for designing an online course to best practices in document design. Guidelines for producing audio and video media are also included. The companion website, Essentials of Online Course Design (http://essentialsofonlinecoursedesign.com/), adds an extra dimension to the book, offering additional resources for deeper exploration.

It’s an excellent and easy-to-understand introduction for educators on how to make sense of and effectively use LMSs at their institutions. Even if not teaching online, the strategies in this book are an extension of core sound teaching principles that any instructor will be able to apply to create effective technology-enhanced teaching and learning experiences.

A gem of a book!

Steve Brown has been a major contributor to the field of second language listening, through his presentations and classes, through his cutting-edge classroom materials, such as English Firsthand, and through his down-to-earth teacher training work, such as Listening Myths. Listening Myths is a very accessible, very personable, very entertaining work. It will be especially valuable for new teachers who need quick guidance on teaching approaches, but also appreciated by teacher trainers and researchers who want more background and insight into the key issues the book investigates.

Listening Myths is organized around eight popular "myths" - commonsensical and widely held beliefs that are at best faulty oversimplifications and at worst downright dangerous views when put into practice. The 8 myths (Listening is the same as reading. Listening is passive. Listening equals comprehension. Because L1 listening ability is required effortlessly, L2 listening ability is too. Listening means listening to conversations. Listening is an individual, inside-the-head process. Students should listen only to authentic materials. Listening can't be taught) are examined and deconstructed carefully. Brown shows that while each myth may contain a grain of truth, buying into the myths will lead to lazy thinking, and also to poor teaching and ineffective learning.

The book is brilliantly organized, weaving between the themes of research and application. Each chapter provides a section on "What the research says", including a summary table of relevant studies that have helped to debunk the particular myth. Each chapter concludes with a practical "What we can do" section that provides detailed clear guidelines that teachers can employ immediately to counter the myth in actual teaching situations.

Overall, I found Listening Myths to be refreshing, thorough, and up-to-date. Steve Brown has made a wonderful contribution to both research and teaching in this gem of a book!
