Worth the read

This is a great read for the tween set. The author sets a good pace for the level of reading and she had me at the opening paragraphs with that foggy setting and the stranger. Yikes! I really liked Claudia - a typical thirteen-year-old whose character arcs nicely in the story. Well written. I can't imagine anyone in the tween set not liking this. I did, and I'm an adult. I hope to see more of Claudia in the future.

Great fantasy story.

It's her thirteenth birthday so she's expecting the usual birthday cards from the usual people. She's not expecting to get an old letter from her grandfather she never knew and has been dead for years!

The author and Publishing Push shared a copy of this book with me for review (thank you). It has been published. You can find it on Amazon.

The letter tells of a theft long ago and tells her she's the only who can solve the mystery and save her grandmother, Daisy, from being hung for the crime. She's not sure how to do that, so she decides to visit the area in London where the crime was committed.

I knew I was going to like this story as I got started reading but when the author adds a magical cat, she got all my attention. Not only that, there's a beautiful dollhouse full of details, a mini grandfather clock that doesn't work and much more. This is fantasy read that is just right for younger readers. It was also just right for me.

Claudia discovers she can travel through time and meets a young man who becomes a friend and works with her to try to solve the crime.

There's an evil man who wants to use magic to take over the world, a good witch, her grandmother, and more in the past. She learns that as she changes the past, she changes the present, too. She also learns she's not done with her quest. Now Hugo is in trouble!

I enjoyed this story enough it's going in my personal library. I'll be watching for the next book. You ought to read it, too.

A magical adventure

Sometimes you read a book that is so magical, it transports you out of the real world for a short while. The Spell of Pencliff is one of those such books. I bought it for my daughter but had a quick peep at the first page. I was hooked and read it all in one sitting. This has all the perfect ingredients of a children's story, but grown-ups, you're going to love it too. It brought to mind all of my favourite childhood books.

The main character Claudia is a great role model for young children, caring and compassionate, yet feisty and adventurous. She was the perfect choice to take on a time-travelling magical adventure and I loved her feline companion Sekora. In fact, all of the characters were great and had some fantastic names. The story is easy enough for tweens to follow but full of enough well written twists to keep you engrossed. I was kept guessing throughout, carried along as the suspense built and secrets were revealed.

The short chapters are an ideal length to read a chapter a night as a bedtime story but you're going to want to keep reading to the end - be warned. I'm looking forward to sharing this book with my children, I know they're going to enjoy it as much as I did. I also can't wait for the next book in what is going to be an amazing series.

Latoya Chandler is a New York-based writer. She enjoys her career as an executive assistant to the CEO of a non-profit organization. When not busy writing or burying her nose in books of the urban romance/fiction persuasion, Latoya enjoys spending time with her family, which includes her five loving children and her very patient better half. Torn...Six degrees of separation

I was gifted this book and I must say it was one of the best gifts I've received.Talking about six degrees of separation,my goodness if ever there was one. I think every last character is this novel was psychotic. No doubt, Tae was she dealt with a lot but it didn't give her no reason to treat her husband that way. Darnell all he wanted to do was love his wife and that he did. Nae if that's how you love your best friends I'll rather do without. Sharon had to be the craziest of them all to do the things she did; with BK coming in a real close second.Walter I just can't with him, I really think that he is the old man BK was talking about, ugh how gross. Nard has to be the sanest of the bunch and that ain't saying much, but at least he had is partner's back, he actually is a true definition of a friend. i won't give anymore away I just recommend you do get this book. I couldn't put it down and I found myself trying to skip to the back just to see what was going to happen. This is definitely a great read.

Explosive and Exciting!

I couldn't wait for this book to be released, and let me tell you it didn't let me down. I've never seen so many people with tumultuous lives. The way that the Latoya has intertwined their stories was nothing short of amazing. After reading this story it will have you sitting back thinking about the people in your life. Lol! I was saddened by the way it ended, only because I didn't want it to, but I look forward to part 2. Great Job Latoya and I look forward to reading more of your work.

A wonderful read

"Torn" by Latoya Chandler is a fascinating and highly entertaining read. This is the first story by this author I have read, and I found it to be well written and well edited. In the book so many bad things can happen to people through no fault of their own, while with other people one mistake can haunt them forever. And then, there are many points in the story that I thought I knew where things were going, but now I am not so sure. It really is messing with my head! and I loved it :o) The realness of the characters and plot are what makes this book exceptional and I am anxiously waiting for part two! If you like romantic thrillers, this is a wonderful read.

This is one of the worst books by Danielle Steel I've ever read and I ...

This is one of the worst books by Danielle Steel I've ever read and I have already read over 60 of her books by the way. This book deals mainly about 3 different couples or families trying to get pregnant, being pregnant, having abortions, surrogate mothers, IVF, detailed gynecological examinations and births, adoption, sterility and what not.
I wonder why Danielle Steel wrote such a book, for what, for whom, etc. because of it's awful descriptions and boring content. The three different stories are interwoven in such a way that you don't realize at first who she is talking about because there's no change of chapter or a hint, that now it's about another couple or family.
In my experience, Danielle Steel can do better!

All of the master pattern pieces include 1/4? (6 mm) seam allowances. This is the best seam allowance to use when sewing lingerie. You can use a regular sewing machine or a serger/overlock machine.

The master pattern includes five sizes from extra small to extra large. Patterns are made to fit specific body measurements with ease allowed for comfort and style. Before you trace the pattern, choose the size by comparing your measurements to the measurement chart.

Great book

This is a very good book, as all the other books that Mrs. Martensson has published. It is very detailed, shows how to do all the things with plenty of illustrations and photographs, and gives the patterns in the most common sizes. It even shows you how to do some basic alterations to them for a great deal of garments. The only thing I missed in this book is a basic bra pattern, but other than that, all other patterns are great, and I have used them extensively. I sew most of my clothes, and these patterns have made making my underwear and lingerie a pleasure. I have enjoyed making the things in this and in other books I have bought from Kwik Sew for many years. I highly recommend it.

Even a novice can make something great!

Until I found Kwik Sew, I really never had garment success that I could love. My first book was the baby book---and as my son grew I added the others. Thanks to Kwik Sew I was able to make him pajamas in his favorite designs (Ninja Turtles and Mario Brothers--yeah it was a long time ago!). I was able to add length to his pants and the arms/torso so that he could wear each set for almost a year. Try that with store-bought pajamas! He was so proud of them and I even still have some even though he's an adult now.

Thanks to these books and how easy they made sewing, I learned to love sewing in a way that never would have happened if I had kept on using other commercial patterns. You know the ones---rife with mistakes in the instructions or the pieces don't match!!!! That never happens with Kwik Sew. I also learned the joy of a multi-size pattern; I hated having to buy the same pattern in various sizes. I learned how frugal it is to TRACE my patterns and not cut them up!

I don't agree with someone saying the lingerie in this book looks dated; it's all in your technique and the fabrics you use. Really, lingerie isn't that different today than it was. With modern fabrics and trims it doesn't matter what your pattern looks like! These are all basic lingerie that is still sold in this style in stores like JcPenney and Macy's.

Very useful for the main sights

Since it focusses on a couple of places extensively, with handy, informative city walks and lots of info about eating, sleeping and transportation, but skips entire parts of the Scandinavic countries, this guide is very good, and perhaps even more useful than the Lonely Planet, if you only visit those places described in the book and not the rest. Not all major destinations are listed, e.g. Trondheim and Göteborg are missing, hence my 4 out of 5 stars, but even with those cities missing I though it a very useful book. The city walks are excellent and somehow we often ended up in restaurants that were listed.
I bought the ebook version which was very convenient on both phone and tablet, the only disadvantage being that you have to browse quite a bit between the city walk maps and the (very informative) written description.

Absolutely Essential

I especially liked Steve's Norway in a Nutshell trip you can take on your own. We skipped the expensive, shorter excursion offered by the cruise ship and saved enough to pay for all of our tour books. We visited all of the Scandinavian countries and used this book before docking in each major city, as well as in Tallinn, Estonia. Warning: the book makes you want to go back for more!

My wife and I depart the first week in August for a Baltic Sea cruise aboard the Silver Whisper. Just found this new hard-cover book at B&N today. It has beautiful photos and information on many of the places we will be visiting. I’ve previously enjoyed Dave Kraft’s books Leaders Who Last and Mistakes Leaders Make, and was looking forward to reading his latest book based on the Old Testament character Nehemiah.

Kraft writes that in Nehemiah’s story we see every facet of leadership lived out. He writes that Nehemiah receives a vision from God and then he casts the vision, recruits the vision and works tirelessly to insure the vision happens. In this short book, Kraft focuses on twelve leadership principles he sees in Nehemiah’s life. He includes helpful “Questions to Ponder” at the end of each chapter to stimulate your thinking as you consider your leadership role in light of these principles.

Kraft writes that leadership always begins with God. True spiritual leadership is getting on our heart what God has on His. The first task of leadership is to hear from God and let him form a vision. Kraft writes that if you don’t set the vision, you’re not the leader. Whoever is establishing the vision and goals in your church or team is the real leader. For the Christian leader, God must be the beginning, middle, and end of the vision.

Kraft writes that when a vision is clear, you have a way of measuring progress. When a company, group, team, or church is casting vision, it needs to be as specific as possible.

Kraft states that a leader is a person who is dissatisfied with the ways things are. He has a burden, a vision, and a call to see something different. He wants to see something change, to build a new future. He then begins to communicate what he thinks, and where he wants to go.

He lays out three aspects to leading:
• Who the leader is: Identity
• Where the leader is headed: Inspiration
• How the leader brings others along: Investment

He tells us that anyone who has had a leadership role for any length of time knows that being judged, condemned, or having one’s motives questioned goes with the territory. Unfortunately, in many cases it comes from some of your key people and that’s especially hard to take. But, Kraft states, if everybody likes everything you’re doing, you are probably not doing anything of significant value. Leaders don’t lead and make decisions in order to be popular or appreciated.

Kraft writes that the wise leader confronts people and issues head-on by considering various solutions and then acting prayerfully and decisively. However, many leaders are cowards when it comes to confronting people, especially other leaders. He writes that he has known and worked with leaders who would rather quit and move on rather than confront people.

Kraft writes that it is powerful for leadership to often review what has been happening, both the victories and accomplishments as well as the difficulties. One of the things good leaders do is make a big deal out of victories regardless of the size. People are starving for encouragement and affirmation. Followers are hungry for leaders to express appreciation and affirmation, but seldom hear it.

He also states that leaders are at their best when they are calling followers to their best, not letting them get away with sloppy standards and sloppy living.

A leader should not be afraid to remind people what the organization or group values are and then hold followers accountable for those values.

Kraft states that Nehemiah exemplifies all the best in leadership. He is bold, courageous, confrontational (when it’s called for), and persistent in sticking with what he feels led to do. In his estimation, the book of Nehemiah is the best book of the Bible to study and learn exemplary leadership.

He concludes the book with some suggestions on how to apply what we have learned from these leadership principles seen in the life of Nehemiah. I appreciated this short, but helpful look at leadership principles in the life of Nehemiah.

You can learn a lot from Nehemiah and Dave Kraft shows you how!

Reading through and really digging deep into the book of Nehemiah gave me a whole new insight into what a true leader looks like. Dave Kraft wrote in such a way that I can use Nehemiah's examples in everyday life(home, work, and leading groups) with more confidence. Realizing that the times have not changed much (people are still people), will allow me to be bolder in my prayer life and to step out where I haven't dared. Dave leaves the reader with suggestions on how to begin this journey with applications. With these tools, I know that I can succeed.

Humility

I found this little book to be practical and helpful as an encouragement to me to dig into Nehemiah's vision and passion in God's Word. By reading this guide to his leadership style, I was reminded again of the importance of identity, inspiration , and investment in our dreams and God-given visions. Humility and focus stand out on this book.
